From Ireland and based in Berlin, Rory Grubb combines documentary, portraiture and candid photography. Some of his themes include rivers, rural life and Eastern Europe. His visual language mixes everyday scenes with painterly compositions which are often cinematic and convey a strong sense of space and environment.
He built his own darkroom as a teenager, has exhibited photography and video art in group exhibitions, and has participated in photographic seminars at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. Aside from photography he is a multidisciplinary artist, with a practice crossing into the fields of graphic design, music and video.
In 2025 he began his project “Somewhere Else” in Georgia, exploring the life of exiled oppositionists and dissidents from Europe’s authoritarian regimes.
He is also a musician: music here
